  University of Maryland - College Park, History

The Department of History at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications from scholars of Chinese history with a research specialization in any subfield from the Tang through the Qing dynasties. Preference will be given to candidates who can participate in enhancing the University’s East Asian Studies Program and contribute to the History Departments emphasis on global interaction and exchange. The successful candidate should show exceptional scholarly achievement/promise and evidence of excellence in teaching. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate lecture courses and upper-level undergraduate seminars as well as graduate seminars on specialized topics ; advising graduate students ; and engaging in curriculum development. Candidates must have Ph.D. in hand by August 1, 2014.   East Asian Languages and Civilizations Assistant Professor in East Asian Religion

The Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in East Asian religion. The search committee welcomes applications from specialists in any discipline, including (but not limited to) cultural history, gender studies, and ritual studies. The successful candidate should have training in relevant languages and be deeply engaged with primary sources. He or she will contribute to the Department’s undergraduate program by offering courses in both Chinese and Japanese religion, with graduate offerings appropriate to his or her expertise. A normal teaching load is 4 courses per year on a semester system. As this new faculty position is part of a cluster hire in Asian religions, cooperation with colleagues in the Departments of Religious Studies and South Asia Studies is essential. Candidates should have a compelling and original research agenda and a wish to pursue it within the interdisciplinary framework offered by the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, the School of Arts and Sciences, and the wider University.
