  A peer-reviewed academic journal

Études Chinoises is a multi-disciplinary journal published since 1982 by the Association Française d’Études Chinoises (AFEC). It covers all historical periods and all fields, such as history, philosophy, literature, linguistics, archaeology or anthropology.

Its purpose is to promote original research and publication by both French and foreign scholars. Texts are published in French and English along with abstracts in French, English and Chinese, providing the journal with an international reach in keeping with its international distribution. More than half of current subscriptions are from outside of France. As of October 2012, Études chinoises is ranked in the AERES (Evaluation Agency for Research and Higher education) evaluation, in the History section.

Études Chinoises presents—in thematic issues, specialized and bibliographic articles, reports on research, and a broad selection of book reviews—academic information that offers specialists and non-specialists alike access to current research in the field of Chinese studies.

The journal is exclusively financed by the contributions of members of the AFEC, who receive the journal, which is published twice a year, as well as the newsletter Les dernières nouvelles de l’AFEC with the latest news of the Association.

The Centre d’Études sur la Chine Moderne et Contemporaine (CECMC) of the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), the Centre de recherche sur les civilisations de l’Asie orientale (CRCAO) as well as the Institut des Hautes Études Chinoises (IHEC) of the Collège de France provide material support for the operation of the Association as well as the production of the journal.
