Description :

  • The Department of Historical and Cultural Studies (HCS) at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC) invites applications for a tenure-stream appointment in the historical study of Gender in East Asia. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will begin on July 1, 2015 or shortly thereafter.
  • Applicants must hold a PhD in History, Women’s and/or Gender Studies, or East Asian Studies by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter. Applicants also must have a record of excellence in research in the area of historical study of Gender in East Asia, demonstrate the ability to develop an independently funded research program, and must exhibit demonstrated excellence in teaching.
  • The successful candidate will contribute to interdisciplinary research, teaching, and programming, and complement or expand the department’s existing strengths in studies of labour, migration, law, family, empires, commodities, and socio-cultural practices. S/he will develop and teach a range of innovative thematic and regional undergraduate courses at all levels of the HCS curriculum at UTSC. As a full member of the integrated tri-campus Graduate History Department of the University of Toronto, the successful candidate will supervise Masters’ and doctoral students. S/he will be expected to participate actively in relevant trans-disciplinary programs, initiatives, and public events. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
